Incredibles 2 – The Electric Shadows Podcast

Episode 46 of The Electric Shadows Podcast may focus on Incredibles 2, but Robs Daniel & Wallis squeeze in much more movie talk besides.

Other films discussed are Hereditary (one Rob is warmer to it than the other), Sicario 2: Soldado (the other Rob is warmer to it than the other), Oceans 8 (only one Rob has seen it) and Leave No Trace (only the other other Rob has seen it).

There is also time for a quick rundown of Mission: Impossible movies and superhero films when delivering their verdict on Incredibles 2.  And Rob Wallis impresses with his knowledge of Shakespeare. Everything crammed into just over an hour. Who says they can’t be disciplined with run times? They do actually…

Minions

Minions---posterDirectors: Kyle Balda, Pierre Coffin

Writer: Brian Lynch

Cast: Sandra Bullock, Steve Coogan, Jennifer Saunders, Geoffrey Rush, Pierre Coffin

Cert: U

Running time: 91mins

Year: 2015

The lowdown: It’s Minions Begins in this prequel to the outrageously successful Despicable Me franchise. The DM formula, a simple story is merely the clothesline on which to hang a series of gags, is again stuck to, but it’s these gags you’ll remember when the lights go up. All good fun, beautiful to look at and frequently chucklesome, with Sandra Bullock giving good panto in her first villainous role as the fiendish Scarlett Overkill. While never reaching the giddy heights of Despicable Me 2, your kids are still gonna love it.

Running time: 91mins

Year: 2013

The lowdown: Sandra Bullock and George Clooney are lost in space as the audience loses itself in ninety-minutes of cinematic perfection in Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity. Action movie and disaster epic, with a dollop of existential soul-searching against a backdrop of deep space, this raises the bar of big screen spectacle as Star Wars, Jurassic Park and The Matrix did before it. Succumb to its irresistible pull.

Gravity - George ClooneyGRAVITY

The full verdict: Seven long years have passed since Alfonso Cuaron amazed us with Children of Men. Gravity is a first class return, and like its predecessor splices high intelligence scriptwriting with high adrenalin filmmaking.

Birth, death, rebirth, the soul, the cold depths o...
