The lowdown: Martin Scorsese once again proves he’s Hollywood’s most dazzling movie magician with a drug and sex fuelled cautionary tale of corporate greed that is a blast to watch but you wouldn’t want to live there. DiCaprio delivers an astonishing, vanity-free performance as grade-A scumbag Jordan Belfort, a stockbroker who makes Gordon Gekko look like Robin Hood...

Cast: James McAvoy, Eddie Marsan, Jamie Bell, Imogen Poots, Jim Broadbent, Shirley Henderson, John Sessions

Cert: 18

Running time: 97mins

Year 2013

The lowdown: A bent copper movie based on a novel from Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh, you know Filth ain’t gonna be pretty. But, little can prepare for you this coke n’ booze fuelled blast through the Christmas period of James McAvoy’s particularly unwell policeman. McAvoy is a revelation as the sick dick, manipulating and taunting those around him, while indulging in all kinds of naughty business. Exhilarating, shocking, stylish and with laughs that get stuck in the throat, this is all the right kinds of wrong.

Passion (2012)

Cert: 15

Running time: 105 mins

Year: 2012

The lowdown: Brian De Palma is a long way from his glory days with this latest clunker.  Attempting to recapture the dark eroticism of Dressed to Kill, he ends up floundering in a sea of Body Doubles and Femme Fatales.  Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace are warring advertising colleagues locked in a deadly psychosexual game of cat-and-mouse, but the only thrills to be had are from the unintentional chuckles.  A rush remake of the French film Crime d’Amour starring Kristin Scott-Thomas and Ludivine Sagnier, this is not De Palma’s worst (that’s still Mission To Mars) but the director has truly lost his (Carlito’s) way.

Tulpa - Gerini redItalian actress Claudia Gerini is best known to UK audiences for appearances in The Passion of the Christ, Penelope Cruz’s Don’t Move and as a memorable villain in the TV adaptation of Kate Mosse’s Labyrinth.

Audiences will soon be able to see her in the mad Italian sex-thriller Tulpa, directed by her husband Federico Zampaglione, whose previous film was the neat little horror, Shadow.

A throwback to the classic Italian giallo horror-thrillers of the 1960s and 70s, Tulpa concerns a beautiful banker, Lisa (Gerini) whose life becomes a nightmare when members of the sex club she frequents begin turning up dead.

Fearing she’s next on the killers’ list, Lisa must solve the mystery before the black-gloved psycho moves her to the top of the list.

I caught up with Gerini to discuss the u...
